2 months post-approvalFAQs
How long does the citizenship application take?
6–12 months typically. Complex cases may take up to 24 months. Overseas-born children of citizens: about 1 month.
Can my family apply together?
Yes. You can include your spouse (also PR) and unmarried children under 21 in the same application. Applying as a family signals commitment and can strengthen your case.
Will my son need to serve National Service?
Yes. All male citizens must register at 16.5 and serve 2 years full-time NS from age 18. Boys can hold dual citizenship until NS age, then must choose. Deferment for university is generally not granted.
Can I keep my current citizenship?
No. Singapore does not allow dual citizenship for adults. You must renounce your existing citizenship upon approval. Children under 21 may hold dual temporarily.
What is the Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ)?
A mandatory programme for applicants aged 16–60. Three components: e-Journey (online module), Singapore Experiential Visit (half-day tour), and Community Sharing Session. Must complete within 2 months of approval.
